I had to put my Chaplin down last Friday. His health hadn't been good the past month or two, and he really took a turn for the worst. I didn't have him for long, only a little over four years, but he was my little buddy, and I miss him terribly. Everyone always couldn't believe how happy he was - they had never met a Kees before :)

Goodbye Chaplin. I miss you. 2000?-2011

Lets suggest a Kees for the White House [Nov. 7th, 2008|06:41 pm]

Even if you did not vote for hm for President, we should vote for a kees in the White House. What dog could be better for the girls to play with. No shedding on the White House furniture. I would suggest my dog, because he just dug the empty bag of treats out of the trash, but he is 8.

Still acts like a puppy, a 38 pound lap dog puppy. Oh well, he is drinking some water now, he should be pulling his pillow off the couch and going to bed.

So what kind of odd quirks do your dogs have?

A web site - with NO KEESHONDS!! [Oct. 5th, 2007|12:02 am]

You can imagine how sad I was to be sent this web site by a friend who thought it was cute. No matter how hard or long I looked, I could not find a single picture of a keeshond.

Not a puppy, not an adult dog, nada not a single one.

This problem needs to be corrected!!!

Here is the link to the web site --

And here are the rules for submissions.

Ok people, lets get out there and show the world that nothing is cuter than a keeshond!

This is what Byron thinks of web sites with no Keeshonds on them!!!!!!

Tell us the story of how a Keeshond came into your life. Was your dog a rescue, a shelter, did you personally step forward and remove your dog from a sad life?

In one of the other dog communities I am a member of people are invited to submit weekly theme. I wonder if people would want to do the same here?

Yesterday morning we had to put Idgett to sleep. Her health took a steep decline this past weekend and just did not get any better.
The look she gave yesterday morning is one I'll never forget. She knew and she had resigned herself.
I miss her already, like I miss all of my babies who have gone to the next world.

Some of her fur is missing...that is the result of a flea problem we had a couple years ago because of a then-neighbor's flea-infested cats wandering into our yard. Idgett had a severe allergic reaction to the fleas and lost A LOT of fur. She got some back, but never her full coat.

She's the one farthest to the left, then Stormy, then Ransom

Shaving the Puff [Apr. 2nd, 2007|10:14 am]

[mood |curiouscurious]

Hi there, new member. I swear I will do an intro post with pics of my puff when I get the chance but for now I'd like some info.

Sofia (my Kees) is 8 months old and her coat is pretty much in, we're waiting on her mane to really grow in but she's essentially there. I live in Texas and I have been walking a lot with both of my dogs (the other is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel) and although I know it isn't safe for any of us to be walking for miles in the hot sun in August I am already starting to get concerned. I don't want to exclude Sof from walks but some days it is too hot with all that puff. They are indoor dogs so they get to enjoy the comforts of air conditioning but what about during walks? I know I can get away with short ones with her very early in th day or in the evening but that isn't always practical and I go on 5 mile walks several times a week with my girls.

So my question: should I shave her? When I was younger my parents had 2 Kees and twice they were clipped down and their coats grew back beautifully. They even looked pretty cute with short fur. That was in Canada. I heard that the long fur protects from both the heat and cold so would I be exposing her to more heat problems if she was clipped short? I would love to keep her beautiful coat but there are days that I feel so bad for her even though it isn't really hot yet. Suggestions? Information?
